Identifying the antecedents of trust-based cooperation in international trade with emphasizing the intercultural background

Abstract

The changes in the world economy during the past decades have led to the internationalization of the relations of industries and companies and subsequently the emergence of the phenomenon of intercultural communication. Therefore, ensuring the success of companies without understanding how to trust and collaborate in different cultures can be challenging and difficult. In this regard, the present research was conducted with the aim of identifying the antecedents of trust-based cooperation in a cross-cultural context. This research in terms of purpose is operational and in terms of method it is an exploratory research that was conducted with a qualitative approach. The participants in the research were experts and senior managers with experience in the international trade department in Iranian and Chinese automobile companies. The number of required samples was determined by theoretical saturation and the samples were selected by targeted method. The data collection tool was semi-structured interviews. To analyze the data, the theme analysis method and MaxQuda software were used. Based on the findings of the research, the effective factors on trust-based cooperation in the intercultural context include 36 sub-categories and 12 main categories. Based on the results, the antecedents of trust-based cooperation in the cross-cultural context are: macro environment factors, gaining international credit, cultural intelligence, organizational factors, managerial factors, cultural sharing, human resource competence, international relations, organizational processes, effective targeting and cultural differences. The results of the current research provide insight to managers who will be able to create and improve cooperation in a cross-cultural context.
